Fr. Gerald Borer A.K.A. Fr. Jerry

Please pray for the repose of Fr. Jerry's soul. I just heard that he died last week. He was a great priest, one of the best and most holy in our diocese.

We met in 2000 shortly after we moved to Colorado Springs. We had been in the process of trying to find a good church and bounced around a bit before we hit Our Lady of the Pines. Being from a small town in Alabama, we were used to a smaller church and this was it.

Fr. Jerry coached my then Fiancee and I through the steps to prepare for Marriage. Had we not gone back to Alabama to get married in our old church, I would have only trusted Fr. Jerry to Marry us.

He knew his flock so well, that if a family showed up without one of their members, he would ask about them by name. He was very active in the church, if we had activities outside of the mass, he was always there.

One morning he got up for the sermon and made an announcement I will never forget. He said he had been sharing his bed with another. Even though it was cold sometimes, he would be unable to breath if it ever left. That is when he revealed to us that he had emphysema and had to sleep with an oxygen tank. His health continued to decline from there and shortly there after handed over his role as celebrant of Our Lady of the Pines.

This is a great loss for us, and a great gain for Heaven. I wish we had more priests like Fr. Jerry. Fr. Jerry we will miss you.
