What does the Catholic church say about drinking alcohol? I have heard Baptists and others use the alcohol argument when talking badly about Catholics. They claim that alcohol is bad. My response is the typical look at the wedding and last supper. Jesus Himself drank wine then. I actually had someone claim once that wine in that time was just juice and not fermented into what we know as wine today.
Is there a set limit, can we drink as much as we want, what's the deal?
There are several schools of thought on this based on biblical reading. The argument that it is bad comes from several places. There are several places where warnings are given against yeast, or drinking to excess. Most that will tell you it is bad altogether are from watered down faiths where it is better to avoid at all rather than face temptation.
The way I have read these citing is that drinking to excess is wrong. You then have to decide how much is excess. IMO drinking to excess is when it can cause damage to yourself or others, or when you put your drinking above more important things. Alcoholism for example would be a definite no-no. So in some cases it could even be just one beer. That is for you to decide, you have to live with your choices when you face God.
