I have seen Religious Education, CCD, and Sunday School to describe the children's classes on Sunday. I grew up with CCD, and the Protestants had Sunday School. What is the difference in any of them? I just noticed that in our church it is now called Religious Education rather than CCD. Do the kids learn anything different, or did they just change the name?
Nope, it is the same thing. Except for the Catholic stuff, you should learn the same stuff in a Protestant Sunday School class. For that matter, all of the same stuff might be covered, same books and all depending on the church and age group.
We have changed it to RE or Religious Education in our church as well. I think they wanted to portray the class as what it is. Which would you expect to put your kid in, Confraternity of Catholic Doctrine or Religious Education?
Where I grew up I had mostly Baptist friends. They went to church on Sunday and class on Wednesday. I always thought it was funny when they talked about Sunday School since the class was actually on Wednesday. Once we hit a certain age, it simply became "Youth Group" for all of our churches, no matter what day.
